It almost looks like off a belt. It is coming from the vents on my Twin Disc transmissions. A few pieces on the stb. engine (find 3 – 5 pieces) and port more ( find 5 – 10) after each run of the engines. I wash and clean the engine…
6 RepliesOctober 24, 2022 at 7:58 pm Who did the repair for you? I had one side done right after I bought the boat, but the starboard side was supposedly on back order. I since then moved my boat from San Diego to HB and looking for a good mechanic to complete this starboard side for me. Any suggestions? thanks in advance

Twin Disc EC-250 electronic with synchronizers and trolling valves

October 17, 2022 at 9:21 pm I recently purchased a 2003 Mikelson 50 with Twin Disc EC-250ās with electronic synchronizers and trolling valves. There are three stations and all controls are pitted and corroded. Finding identical units to replace them seems to not be viable. Is there a more current model that can replace this set up? Ā Thank you advance for any insight or input on this topic.

Salt water submersion

October 19, 2022 at 6:22 pm Hello Seaboard Marine, I have a 33 ft Barry Farrell troller wth a Cummins 6BT diesel and Borg Warner V Drive,. Sadly the boat sank in salt water and the engine was completely submerged. We hauled her out immediately and she is now on dry land. Is it true that the engine must be pickled immediately or at the very latest within a few hours. Can you please tell me if this is true or can It wait a few days until my mechanic can get to it?. And what …

6BT transmission oil coolant anode
This topic has 1 reply, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 2 years ago
October 19, 2022 at 8:15 pm Hi there, Quick question. In the attached photo of the oil heat exchanger where is the anode. The small plug in the lower left end seems very small. many thanks Nigel Nck
1 ReplyOctober 21, 2022 at 3:16 am On the Cummins factory supplied transmission oil cooler shown here (6BT 5.9), there is NO real provision for an anode.Ā The small 1/8″ NPT port / plug was put there to drain the coolant/seawater , or maybe for a seawater feed to a shaft log?.. Maybe we should ask, what were they thinking? Seaboard Founder & President

Zeus – adding a Second Joystick
This topic has 2 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 2 years ago
October 5, 2022 at 12:35 am My main helm joystick is great however I have no visibility of back corners of boat nor can I get my head out the slim window opening on our Riviera 4400 [Wife has already done those jokes] Any idea how difficult and cost involved in installing a second joystick in the cockpit?Ā Ā Would be a 5m run and relatively easy to get cables through Have just been quote $18,000 AUD / USD$11,350 for a Dockmate Thanks Harvey Sassy
2 RepliesOctober 17, 2022 at 8:18 am What about a rear facing camera that is connected to one of your Multi Function Displays?Ā If you do some searching and reading on this site about Zeus and the joystick, you might look at something a little lower tech and more reliable.Ā Mount it on the center line of your hardtop looking aft and you can see what you need to see.Ā You will still need to move yourself from the helm to the aft deck to handle lines but you are doing that now I bet.…

ZF BW165 Leaking…and slipping?
This topic has 7 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 2 years ago
September 30, 2022 at 8:25 am I’ve got ZFBW165 mated to 1200 hp man’s.Ā The port oil cooler has been leaking. I plan to remove it and hopefully its just a matter of replacing the o-rings where it mounts to the gear box.Ā However, I now have a new problem that may or may not be indicative of the cooler failing all together.Ā Recently, I had my port trim tab fail while underway (boat is a 58 viking). I’ve since had the trim tab removed and am running without …

ZF 280-1 electronic shifted gearbox
This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 2 years ago
October 2, 2022 at 4:16 pm Hi guys, Cummins 480 CE coupled with a ZF 280-1 gearbox, Fully electronically shifted, microcommander controls and cruise command processors. This weekend moving the boat after no issues at all shifting around the fuel dock, we got under way and up to around 2050 rpm, and after about twenty seconds under power there was a noticeable bang, the shaft will not spin, and the controls will not shift into forward or reverse. I have never had an issue …
2 RepliesOctober 3, 2022 at 5:56 pm Hi Tony thanks for the quick response. Had the boat hauled today⦠no response from the port side after the bang was due to the shaft shearing off behind the strut. Prop gone. Shaft was not spinning at idle speed without the prop obviously. Trans side seems ok, now to deal with the rest of the repairs needed. Thanks for getting back to me as quickly as you did.Ā

August 16, 2022 at 9:43 am 6cta 450’s, zf 280 transmissions.Ā Ā Typical cruise is 2250rpm and I typically see gear pressure of 300psi Port and 225psi Stbd.Ā Coming back in last weekend and I was cruising at 2400rpm just for the fun of it, probably for 30 minutes.Ā At some point the port pressure climbed up above 400psi.Ā I don’t know if it is due to the faster cruise or some other reason. 4 RepliesAugust 19, 2022 at 3:57 pm OVer the years I have fixed goofy reading guages by reterminating them.Ā Ā Ā THe actual guage and sender were OK but the connections were not. I found many of my terminals had light corrosion on them and it showed on the wire. I would clip off the old terminal,Ā strip the insulation back,Ā use ROSIN paste to dip the wire end into,Ā heat it with my solderingĀ ironĀ so the paste would clean the wire strandsĀ and then reterminate with new terminalsĀ …

June 25, 2022 at 8:48 am This winter I installed a new transmission and drive plate and rear engine seal, all new parts that I got from you and were confirmed to be the right parts.Ā I have now driven the boat about 13 hours and have found pieces of rubber and rubber dust under the engine right under the hole in the bottom of the bell housing. New ZF 220a Pressure Questions

June 27, 2022 at 6:13 pm Yard just installed a new ZF220a gear on a 6bta 330 cummins.Ā Last one had an issue keeping pressure.Ā The new gear is set up with a new trolling valve installed and the pressure sender is on the outboard side of the trolling valve with a right angle turn on the pressure sender.Ā (sorry, can’t get pictures until Wed.)Ā In reverse, I get zero pressure on the gauge.Ā Also, in gear, I am only getting 300 psi.Ā I get just under 300 psi in idle…
