Cummins 6BT / 210 gray smoke

6BT 210 hp running well at 9800 hrs.  Recently, seeing gray smoke when the engine is warm.  When I get close to the exhaust, can smell diesel.   Injectors have never been tested or replaced.  Are there other possible causes for the gray smoke which should be checked before pulling the injectors?
