    Hey guys,

I just bought a bayliner 4087 with twin 6btas. They are recently rebuilt (2021) and they both have trolling valves.

My dad and I are in the process of changing the actuator cables on the trolling valves. On the starboard engine, the cable was removed and I had a tape measure and I was trying to see how much throw the new cable would need to properly actuate the trolling valve. In doing so i flipped the trolling valve control right over- like it flipped right over the top of the valve and its now against the valve itself. The problem is I cant swing it back- is it ok to do this- can I just remove the lever and attach it in a new spot… what the hell do I do here lol. I don’t want to start my engine and put it in gear and find out something is really messed with it.

See the attached picture. The rope was tied there to hold the lever down while we ordered new cables. As you can see the level is flipped right over top now.

    Thanks for your help

    trolling valve photo

    Tony,

The trolling valve picture you supplied with the “we want 3.5 here” is that with the extension piece I have seen you add on or not?

I am in the proccess of ordering these micro adjust cables and they are only showing them with a max 3” travel. obviously with an extension piece they would require more. Are you running 4” travel cables? are you recommending microadjust (vernier style) control ends? where do you source them?

    Thanks

    Hurth 63A’s

    Hi Tony,

That is very helpful thank you. I also took a look and they are both hurth 63a’s, but I don’t think that changes your response.

I am putting the new vernier throttles for trolling valves at the back of the boat beside the downriggers and fishing tackle. I am also about to change from analog to digital gauges. If I went to digital I would run a “video out” from chartplotter to back of the boat- anyhow I would be able to have a readout on the screen for valve pressure.

Do you sell or know of a sensor (without gauge) that I could put into the trolling valve and then run to seagauge analog- digital converter?

    Thanks

    1—–LEARN how it all works

    2——-Start up the engine

3——Flip the shift valve lever Both directions at the ship to see what happens

4—– If both fwd & rev seem to work ( both goĀ  hard/solid into gear), then flip the troll valve completely to the other direction..

5– If it does not go into gear, then you are now in the full troll position..

6—-Nothing scary and all is easy yo UNDERSTAND———

7——-LEARN IT as it is very sensitive as to movement–

8——-Without an accurate pressure gauge at the dash,Ā  IMO (or at the gear while you are testing /learning it)Ā  it is close to impossible to understandĀ  or work with — Trolling take place in the 25-75 PSI range and you literally need to watch the shaft turn while testing / learningĀ  the systemĀ  Full pressure is in the 250-350 PSI range

9–Both levers have clamps are are easily repositioned on the shaft ( after all is de-rusted)–Super importantĀ  to gear all 100% right –DO NOT assume that they are right

    10———These ARE NOTĀ  ZF220A’s–They are ZF80 orĀ  85A’a
